Journey
Tsholofelo Mokhine, professionally known as Felo Le Tee, was born on 20 May 1996 in Siyabuswa, Mpumalanga, South Africa. A pioneering DJ, producer, and singer, he has emerged as one of the leading figures in the Amapiano movement, renowned for his innovative productions, dynamic performances, and contributions to the evolution of South African dance music.
Felo began his musical journey at age 14, initially experimenting with cassettes before progressing to vinyl and digital DJing. His stage name is a tribute to family: “Felo” comes from the last four letters of his first name, Tsholofelo, while “Le Tee” honors his grandmother, Lettie. He initially produced Afro-house tracks under American labels like Nylon Trax before relocating to Pretoria and helping pioneer the “Sgija” sub-genre within Amapiano. He has collaborated with leading artists including DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small, Daliwonga, DBN Gogo, Focalistic, and Mas Musiq, further cementing his role in shaping the contemporary South African music.
His breakthrough came in 2020 through production work on DBN Gogo’s Thokoza Café album, earning him national recognition. He is widely known for hits such as “66,” “Dipatje Tsa Felo,” “Yebo Lapho (Gogo),” and “Bopha.” Albums like Paradise (2021), Contagious (2022), and the collaborative The III Wise Men (2023) with Mellow & Sleazy showcase his versatility and innovation.
Felo has received critical acclaim, including a South African Music Awards (SAMA) nomination for Best Produced Album (2023) for KOA II Part 1. In 2024, he expanded internationally through a partnership with Relentless Records in the UK, promoting “Yebo Lapho” globally.
Beyond the studio, he launched Felo’s Fun House and Sucasa, multi-genre and dance music festivals, cementing his reputation as both a performer and entrepreneur. Known for blending Amapiano rhythms with deep log-drums, melodic textures, and Afro-house influences, Felo Le Tee continues to shape the global South African dance music scene, connecting audiences with energetic beats, infectious melodies, and culturally rooted innovation.
